[2007-12-07 14:47:37] - yes yes.  it says a lot of things that aren't found in practice.  it's a guideline, not an analysis of what's out there in the wild.  ~a

[2007-12-07 14:32:20] - a: It also says wikipedia is not censored in there, which is blatantly untrue. :-) -Paul

[2007-12-07 09:44:07] - paul:  i remember when i had to get a ton of cash from an ATM at 711 ($300 i think) i got a few hundreds from it. - mig

[2007-12-07 09:14:53] - a: Yeah, I hate paying unnecessary fees. You might be right, though, because I also don't want to carry around a lot of cash. -Paul

[2007-12-07 08:16:10] - Paul: banks and casinos are two that I can think of right off the top of my head. -- Xpovos

[2007-12-07 02:13:54] - paul:  trying to avoid atm fees?  this is one of the cases where the atm fee might actually be worth it (to avoid holding too much cash at one time)  ~a

[2007-12-07 01:26:39] - Anybody know how I can trade some twenty dollar bills for some hundreds? It seems ATMs do not give out anything higher than a twenty. :-) -Paul

[2007-12-04 12:46:24] - Gurkie: Phantom Hourglass is the name of the new Zelda game. I doubt I am going to buy it and then hate it. Sorry. :-) -paul

[2007-12-04 12:30:26] - Paul: What is Phantom Hourglass? and get Zelda. (and decide you hate it and give it to me) ~gurkie

[2007-12-04 09:28:22] - paul: I've heard really good things about Phantom Hourglass too - vinnie

[2007-12-03 20:29:23] - a: no it wouldn't - some of my stations repeat a particular song every 20-30 songs. one of my friends had an evanescence station which played "bring me to life" about every 3 hours. if he could skip 40 songs to hear "bring me to life" on demand, it would only be 60 ms delay? that's too short - aaron

[2007-12-03 18:57:59] - aaron:  let the user play whatever song they want :-P . . . but seriously, you could limit the skips but have the limit be much bigger and some sort of exponential factor.  i.e. you can skip 20 times in a row, then you have to wait 10ms.  . . . then you can skip 20 more times in a row, then you have to wait 20ms . . . 40ms . . .  it would only prevent scripting.  ~a

[2007-12-03 18:53:56] - Aaron: Well, I thought it would be a fun multiplayer game for the trip to Vegas and I heard that it was a halfway decent game. Honestly, I'm more interested in that then the Final Fantasy game right now. -paul

[2007-12-03 18:48:33] - a: maybe you can think of a better fix, it's an interesting problem. - aaron

[2007-12-03 18:47:37] - a: Well the record companies' worst nightmare would be that a user could script Pandora to get it to play any song they wanted in demand. i can't really think of a better workaround, i think it's a good comprimise - aaron

[2007-12-03 18:46:07] - paul: i'm surprised mario party DS is even in your top 5 considering the series' only redeeming feature is multiplayer, which i presume you won't be participating in. i've heard good things about phantom hourglass (that is what you mean right?) - aaron

[2007-12-03 17:47:03] - paul:  solar striker.  ~a

[2007-12-03 17:32:18] - Ok, so, here's another question for the message board: What Nintendo DS game should I buy? Contra 4, Final Fantasy: Revenant Wings, Legend of Zelda or Mario Party DS? -Paul

[2007-12-03 16:03:45] - a: newegg has at least 4 under 100 bucks, the cheapest being 59.99 ~gurkie

[2007-12-03 16:01:25] - a: im telling you what i heard, i have no proof to back up that claim, although if I have enough downtime today I will try... ~gurkie

[2007-12-03 15:45:13] - aaron: Yep, those are the Halo composers. I'll have to add some of the music to my stations. Thanks for the info! - Kaleb

[2007-12-03 15:22:04] - a:  according the music industry, yes. - mig

[2007-12-03 15:13:45] - vinnie:  because giving a user too much choice is a bad thing.  ~a

[2007-12-03 15:10:01] - yay matrix music. - mig

[2007-12-03 15:05:42] - a: it tries to work like a real radio station. I think the licensing deal they have with the record companies is basically that it won't allow the user too much choice over the specific song it plays - vinnie

[2007-12-03 15:04:48] - a:  because pandora i guess doesn't want you skipping too many songs?  i don't know. - mig

[2007-12-03 14:56:51] - yes.  why?  ~a

[2007-12-03 14:54:36] - a:  you can only skip a certain amount of songs an hour. - mig

[2007-12-03 14:53:43] - burning your skips?  why do you have a limited number of skips?  ~a

[2007-12-03 14:53:18] - i contest that they cost 50 bucks.  ~a

[2007-12-03 14:52:51] - the problem with the nobuo uematsu station is it picks up a lot of stuff i don't like because it has a lot of classical influences.  i end up burning all my skips so quickly :( - mig

[2007-12-03 14:50:21] - hmmm a digital picture frame seems like a good idea for my parents, i'll go with that. - mig

[2007-12-03 14:33:25] - kaleb: apparently pandora has music from halo in its database. "martin o'donnell and michael salvatori"? it came up on miguel's final fantasy station - aaron

[2007-12-03 12:19:50] - ~gurkie

[2007-12-03 12:19:46] - paul: if you find a good one I think my grandparents would love that. Especially if I loaded it with pics... I thought one of my coworkers mentioned something about being able to find them for 50 bucks.

[2007-12-03 12:18:34] - i'm glad we're not playing west virginia though. - mig

[2007-12-03 12:01:15] - mig: Yeah, I don't really have a problem with LSU finishing ahead of us. They are probably the better team and both their losses came in triple overtime. Also, they spanked us pretty badly early in the season. -Paul

[2007-12-03 11:52:16] - pierce:  i'm on wikipedia too.  . . . close enough.  ~a

[2007-12-03 11:50:17] - i'm surprised that the xbox won't play vob files.  ~a

[2007-12-03 10:47:01] - also i have to think that they might just be trying to avoid controversy with SEC teams at all costs after the whole Auburn debacle. - mig

[2007-12-03 09:49:06] - though i have to admit, us finishing 6th is kind of lame. - mig

[2007-12-03 09:48:04] - errr i mean lsu above us. - mig

[2007-12-03 09:47:52] - paul:  it is kind of hard to argue with humans placing us above lsu after they throttled us, though. - mig

[2007-12-03 08:08:42] - a: Then it's probably not what I am looking for. :-) -Paul

[2007-12-02 23:54:28] - though mencoder is VERY hard to use.  ~a

[2007-12-02 23:53:35] - i can convert from vobs to avi/mpeg files using mencoder.  ~a

[2007-12-02 23:48:55] - digital picture frames are pretty cool (my mom got one for her birthday).  but i think their prices will drop as more companies make them.  17" flat screen monitors are much much cheaper than a much much smaller digital picture frame and i can't explain the discrepancy.  ~a

[2007-12-02 23:47:14] - i skipped past that one word.  ~a

[2007-12-02 23:38:28] - http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/BCSStandings Damn, that's painful. The computer had us as #1 and it's solely because of the stupid human polls that we were left out of the championship game. -Paul

[2007-12-02 14:16:21] - there's also a much smaller one on/above the gold award sign (in the same place in both pictures).  ~a

[2007-12-02 14:15:51] - dead pixels show up as small dots in every picture (sometimes hard to see). here's an example of a small one:  green dot on the lady-wearing-white's collar in the same spot as green dot on the lady-wearing-dark-green's collar.  ~a

[2007-12-02 14:13:02] - a: Sorry, I meant a digital picture FRAME, not a camera. I want one of those frames that just scrolls through showing pictures. -Paul

[2007-12-02 14:12:13] - Also, does anybody have any suggestions on the best way to convert VOB files to WMV files so I can play ripped DVDs on my Xbox360 through my network? :-) -Paul

[2007-12-02 14:07:17] - there are two other things that infuriate me about some digital cameras (which are sometimes worse than the "delay" issues):  dead pixels (in the sensor input, NOT the display) and color balance (people look like zombies on every picture of some cameras).  ~a

[2007-12-02 14:04:28] - make sure you pay attention to this delay because especially people who are used to non-digital cameras will notice this (also the delay on camera startup; which isn't as big of a deal as it used to be)  ~a

[2007-12-02 14:01:27] - depends on what their goals are.  next time i get a camera, it'll be an SLR.  most people's biggest complaints about digital cameras are that there is a HUGE delay after pressing the shutter release button before the picture is taken.  part of this is due to autofocus, and part of it is due to retarded design.  ~a

[2007-12-02 13:45:25] - I'm thinking of getting my parents a digital picture frame for Christmas. Does anybody have any suggestions or advice? -Paul

[2007-11-30 09:53:08] - aaron: they played "Spy", so even John Henry was covered. I'm not sure they played anything off the first album though - vinnie

[2007-11-29 14:24:04] - I'm not generally a believer in the conspiracy theory that the media is out to blackout all coverage of Ron Paul, but this nearly convinced me.  To be fair, though, after getting this and grabbing a screenshot, I reloaded and it worked fine.  Momentary glitch. -- Xpovos

[2007-11-29 14:23:16] - the "fight" between guilani and romney was just moronic.  it just made it so obvious these guys are both just all talk and no substance. - mig

[2007-11-19 15:45:35] - a: Yeah, the gallery was a disaster from day one.  I built a really awesome one (IMO) then Katie waited until the day before launch to tell me that she hated all the photos I'd put up.  So I took most of them down.  As a result, there are a few there, but it's pretty paltry.  To get more you need a userid/login.  -- Xpovos
